iOS7 : All you need to know about Apple's newest iteration of iOS

John Ive’s first iOS is simple, elegant and as everyone said “flat”.

It is completely over-hauled and there is nothing left of the old iOS. As John Ive himself said and I quote

“The interface is purposely unobtrusive. Conspicuous ornamentation has been stripped away. Unnecessary bars and buttons have been removed. And in taking away design elements that don’t add value, suddenly there’s greater focus on what matters most: your content.”

Some of the features highlighted are :-

Parallax Effect: iOS 7 is organized in layers which respond to the moton sensors used in the device and gives a beautiful 3D depth effect. As you move the phone, the layers move in a 3D space, giving a true sense of depth. The OS is translucent and uses it to good effect.

Control Center: After seeing this in Android for quite some time, Apple has decided to incorporate it in their OS. The control center is available from everywhere using gesture (just swipe up from the bottom and there it is. You can toggle airplane mode, control your music, access your camera, your calculator, put it in sleep mode, toggle Wi-Fi or Bluetooth using the control center.

Multitasking: Multitasking is now available to all apps. You can see card like snaps of your apps which are running and if you want to close it, well just throw it up. It learns user’s habit and prepares apps which user uses the most so that they can open really fast.

Notification Center: The new layout looks good having three views namely today, all and missed. It is much better aligned and is synced across all iOS 7 devices.

Siri: Siri the intelligent assistant gets even more intelligent as it gets a new UI and understands even more commands like increase the brightness etc. It also has a male voice to choose from. Services like Twitter, Wikipedia and Bing(Yes you heard me right, Microsoft’s search service) are integrated.

Car Integration: Siri and iOS can connect to the screens of your cars (effective models starting 2014 of manufacturers like Mercedes, Chevy, Nissan, Honda, BMW etc.). It will read directions, mails and do everything Siri does while displaying a special interface on your car screen.

New Music, Photo and camera apps: All these apps gets new features including iRadio for the music app, new layout and organizing ability of Photo app and new filters of camera app.

AirDrop: Like the desktop, mobile device also gets this functionality enabling user to share data with other mobiles and desktops via Bluetooth and WiFi.

Other features:

Safari gets some improvements like elmiminating scrolls and buttons and showing you content( which matters most according to John Ive).

It is already available in beta stages to developers and is expected to reach consumers with the launch of the next iteration of the iPhone( 5S or 6 is still undecided).
